Cold Drinks and Fruits

As one of the school’s longest-serving vendors, Mdm Teo, the owner of the stall, and Mdm Lim, her co-partner, have been serving fruits and beverages to staff and students of Pioneer Primary School for the past 26 years. Mdm Teo left her hometown in Batu Pahat, Malaysia and moved to Singapore to earn a living for her family. She has since regarded Pioneer Primary School as her second home. Retiring at the end of 2021, she is going to miss all the children and staff!

Chinese Rice

Mdm Jennifer Chew and Mr Ng Kar Peng have been with Pioneer Primary School for 14 years. This husband-and-wife team works tirelessly to serve a variety of dishes in a Cai Fan style, which includes brown rice, assorted vegetables and meat. Their most popular dish amongst the students is Chicken Rice with their homemade brown sauce. The fondest memory of Mdm Chew is how the students would share their personal stories with her, and sometimes accidentally calling her “Mummy”!

Chinese Noodles

Mdm Yeoh is one of the longest serving vendors in Pioneer Primary School. Together with Mdm Lai (Hot Drinks & Snacks Stall auntie) and Mdm Teo (Cold Drinks Stall auntie), they have been serving the staff and students since the establishment of Pioneer Primary School in 1995. They have since forged tight-knitted friendships and regarded one another like a family. The most fulfilling part of the job is seeing how the children developed into sensible and confident young learners.

Hot Drinks and Snacks

Mdm Lai is one of the most familiar faces amongst the staff, students and alumni of Pioneer Primary School. As an avid baker, Mdm Lai sold pastries and kuehs when she first became a canteen vendor 26 years ago. She then switched to selling steamed buns, dim sums and sandwiches to cater to the demands of the students. She also serves Milo Dinosaur which is one of the most popular drinks amongst students. Similar to Mdm Latifah, her three grown-up sons were alumni of Pioneer Primary School. She is grateful that this job has allowed her to provide for her family. Despite seeing different graduating cohorts of students yearly, her relationship with the students carried on. Some of the ex-students even invited her to their wedding.

Muslim Rice

Mdm Ida is the youngest resident amongst the canteen vendors. She started her business in the beginning of 2021 and served a variety of Malay dishes. She especially loves to see lower primary students growing up to be independent children, able to buy food on their own. For someone who loves sambal chilli, Mdm Ida would usually make it extra spicy. To ensure the food is not too spicy for the students, she would specially prepare another batch of sambal chilli which is well-liked by them. One of her fondest memories was when students complimented her cooking, and it serves as a greater motivation for her to cook flavourful food for them.

Muslim Noodles

Mdm Latifah and Mdm Fauziah joined the Pioneer family in 2019 and have been serving delectable Muslim food to students and staff since then. Their menu includes Lontong, Mee Siam, Mee Rebus and many more! Mdm Latifah’s three children were former students of Pioneer Primary School.
